Summer Camp 2022!!

After two years of Covid-related cancellations, we’re thrilled to announce that Summer Camp is BACK and even better than before!!  Our new 15 acre facility will allow us to host up to 70 campers and, with our two arenas, we’ll have room for activities galore!

Important: Our motto at Rancho Escondido is Riding for ALL Abilities. This applies to camp, too!  We welcome campers who are typically developing children and we also welcome children with special needs. EVERYONE is always welcome at Rancho Escondido.

Camp Theme and Activities

Given the nature of our new facilities, we thought it would be appropriate to adopt a Wild West theme for our first summer camp in our new home. As such, you can expect Western-themed events and activities, including barrel racing, roping classes, archery, bobbing for apples and, more than likely, an event or two that includes cattle. Obviously, camp will also include horseback riding! We will post a more concrete itinerary as we get closer.
For those of you who don’t know our leader, Ms. Kimber, she was an assistant service unit manager for the Girl Scouts in the Seattle market — she used to manage 80 troops — and she is the absolute queen of crafts. You can count on all kinds of crafting activities.

Important: You do NOT need to know  how to ride a horse to come to camp.
Equally Important: If you DO know how to ride a horse, you will still be challenged and probably learn a thing or two.

Camp Dates and Times

Camp will be held the last week of June, 2022. This is June 27, 2022 to July 1, 2022.
Camp times will be 8:30AM to 3:30PM, with camp arrival starting at 8:00 AM. Camp will run Monday thru Friday, with lunch provided.

Camp Cost

Camp will cost $350.00 for the whole week. This includes lunch daily and a custom camp t-shirt. This works out to about $10.00/hour.
If you would like more than one Camp T-Shirt, additional shirts are $20.00 and must be ordered before March 15th.
Important: All camp payments are only refundable until March 15th. After this date we will have already begun purchasing crafting materials, hiring counselors, etc., so we will no longer be able to issue refunds.

Camp Registration

Registration for Summer Camp 2022 is 100% ONLINE. Navigate to this URL to register. Registration is first come, first served and, at this time, we are unable to take partial payments. (We are trying to figure out how to do this.) Please note that all payments made toward camp, weather partial or in full, are NON-REFUNDABLE after March 15th.

Camp Organization

Campers will be assigned to groups based on their ages, riding abilities and other factors. The number of groups and the number of campers in each group will depend on how many people register. Based on prior experience, we are expecting about 50 campers and we don’t expect having more than six campers per group, but it is too early to know for sure. We will likely cut off registration when we reach 70 or 75 campers. If you would like your children assigned to specific groups together (e.g., siblings, friends, etc.)., please let us know when you register. No guarantees, but we’ll try our best to accommodate  you.

Counselors and Jr. Counselors

If you are interested in being a Camp Counselor or Junior Counselor, please reach out to Ms. Kimber ASAP.

Important: The number of Counselors and Junior Counselors that we require will directly depend on the number of campers who sign up for camp. We will not know our specific numbers until late March or April.

Camp Counselor is a paid position and requires:

  • 18 years old or older
  • Extensive Riding Experience
  • Experience giving lessons
  • Experience working with children

Junior Counselor is a volunteer position and requires:

  • Riding Experience
  • Horse Experience
  • Experience working with children
  • We prefer our JCCs to be at least 15 years old but we will make exceptions for people known to us who we think would be excellent junior camp counselors (Kayleigh, Emma, Jordan, Cade, etc.). (Just know that if you’re a JCC volunteer, you will not participate in most camp crafts and activities.)
